Why FAIRLY chooses fair production

At FAIRLY, we believe that sustainability should never come at the expense of people. That's why we work for transparent and fair production – from fiber to finished bedding.

FAIRLY's bedding is made in India, a country where the statutory minimum wage is often not enough to live on. In many regions, it is around 1000 SEK per month – far below what is needed to be able to eat well, support children or afford safe housing.

A living wage, that is, what a person actually needs for a dignified life, is more than twice that amount. According to the Global Living Wage Coalition, it is around 22,700 Indian rupees , equivalent to about 2500 SEK per month .

So what does FAIRLY do?

1. We do not negotiate down the price of the production.
When the seamstresses ask for a certain amount for their work, they get it. For sewing a duvet cover set, they are paid the amount they set for their time.

2. We share the profits.
Along with the salary for sewing, the seamstresses also receive 10% of the profit on products sold paid out during the year.

“For many textile workers around the world, the reality is different – low wages, unsafe conditions and no opportunity to influence. I want FAIRLY to be a counterforce to that.”
— Josefine Luthman, founder of FAIRLY

When you choose FAIRLY, you are not only choosing soft, sustainable materials like linen, hemp and lyocell. You are also choosing to support fair conditions and work for a more caring textile industry.
